Introducing the new 2023 Ducati Diavel 1260 S Black & Steel…

The Diavel 1260 S "Black and Steel" is inspired by the Diavel "Materico" concept, presented to the public in 2019 at the "Beautiful Boldness / Visionary Design" event during Milan Design Week and subsequently exhibited at the MOARD (Motorcycle Art & Design) exhibition dedicated to two-wheel design.

Black & Steel: asymmetrical and refined graphics that combine glossy grey and matt black as the main colors, with sporty touches in yellow, including the frame, the lower part of the tail and some finishes of the bike.

Rob the scenePowerful. Muscular. But also agile and effective between the curves for maximum riding enjoyment. The Diavel 1260 combines the performance of a maxi-naked with the ergonomics of a muscle cruiser. Its design reinterprets the Diavel style with a contemporary look and integrates perfectly the 159 HP Testastretta DVT 1262 engine, beating heart of this new Diavel 1260

The novelty of the Model Year 2023 is characterized by the choice of asymmetrical and refined graphics that combine glossy grey and matt black as the main colors, to which are added sporty touches in yellow, including the frame, the lower part of the tail, the dedicated seat badge and some details of the bike.

The Diavel 1260 S "Black and Steel" joins the S version in Thrilling Black & Dark Stealth color with red frame and black wheels, will be available in dealerships later on in 2021. The standard version is available in Dark Stealth color with black frame and black wheels.

A contemporary character

Muscular lines and an imposing front bring out the strong and restless personality of the new Diavel, featuring a long, slender rear with a 240 mm rear wheel. The S version with the distinctive golden Öhlins suspensions is the maximum expression of the decisive and refined style of the Diavel 1260. A new sporty Diavel 1260 S, without sacrificing the style that distinguishes it.

The engine is the king

The new Diavel is built around the Testastretta DVT 1262 engine, a beacon of power, beauty and sophistication. Its 159 hp translate to unbelievable acceleration and pick-up, while the flat and consistent torque curve since low rpm allows steady and easy to handle delivery. The Ride by Wire (RbW) control matched with three Riding Modes and three Power Modes allows to personalize engine responsiveness. A true beauty, as far as mechanics and design go, and a real game changer on the road.

Riding pleasure at its best

Sportiness and comfort meet in the new Diavel. The trellis frame ensure lightness and torsional rigidity, while the adjustable fork provides comfort and stability. The care devoted to ergonomics is complemented by the perfect combination of a higher handlebar, a lower seat and central footpegs, with a comfortable and versatile riding position. The S version is fitted with Öhlins suspensions, for a guaranteed fun and an exciting riding experience.

Cheeky elegance

The new Diavel is an ode to elegance and sophisticated details: carbon fibre components and a finely stitched premium quality seat complement the Diavel's outstanding style. An aggressive character, with no compromises, as Marchesini forged rims and the Thrilling Black & Dark Stealth liveries testify. The Daytime Running Light (DRL) headlight, available on the S version, is an unmistakeable hallmark of the new Diavel.

Testastretta DVT 1262The new Diavel 1260 is equipped with a twin cylinder, 1262 cc, desmodromic Ducati Testastretta DVT with a new architecture, translating to a sportier delivery, and chain final drive.

Thanks to the Desmodromic Variable Timing (DVT), the engine delivers a very linear and sizeable torque at low rpm, with very sporty performance at higher rpm.

The Testastretta DVT 1262 features characteristic bore and stroke measures at 106 x 71.5 mm, and a compression ratio of 13.0 : 1, delivering a maximum power of 159 hp at 9,500 rpm * and maximum torque of 129 Nm at 7,500 rpm. Fuel is delivered by a Bosch electronic injection system on elliptical throttle bodies having diameter equivalent to 56 mm, managed by a full Ride-by-Wire system.

Moreover, the Diavel 1260 engine stands out for an extremely accurate design; thanks to the water pump being located in the cylinder V, the cooling system pipes are no longer positioned on the left side.

Testastretta DVT 1262 is fitted with a Dual Spark (DS) system, i.e. two spark plugs for each cylinder head, which exploits a secondary air system that supplies cool air into the exhaust duct in order to complete the oxidisation of unburned hydrocarbons and reduce the level of polluting gasses (e.g. HC and CO) without affecting the performance levels.

Maintenance intervals are expected to be every 15,000 km (or 12 months), while valve play must be checked every 30,000 km.

Ducati Quick Shift Evo (DQS)The new Diavel 1260 S comes standard with Ducati Quick Shift up&down (DQS), the system that lets you shift gear without using the clutch, which translates into superior riding pleasure and comfort, especially in urban routes.

The system works both when upshifting, for full throttle racing accelerations, and downshifting, with the reduction being more fluid thanks to the "blipper" that harmonises the engine's revolutions with the rotation speed of the primary shaft to avoid jamming, all supported by a clutch with anti-hop system.

DQS is available as an accessory also on Diavel 1260.

Desmodromic Variable Timing (DVT)Developed and fine-tuned by Ducati engineers, the DVT system optimizes performance and fluidity of delivery at all speed levels.

Exhaust systemThe new Diavel 1260 exhaust is a two-tailpipe, chambered 2-in-1 unit. The exhaust pipes were designed to display the engine and the central body was placed before the rear wheel in order to be barely visible.

Chassis and ergonomicsThe riding position, the low-seat "power cruiser" ergonomics, the high handlebar, and the central footpegs, very dear to the hearts of first-hour Diavel enthusiasts, did not change. What did change was the chassis.

The new Diavel boasts a new trellis frame with well exposed steel tubes, matched with an aluminum swinging arm whose size was conceived to give this bike outstanding agility in the bends, a great feel and easy riding. The rear tire, 240 mm wide by 17" across, has always been a key distinctive sign of the Diavel. Thanks to the new chassis, it ensures outstanding handling and cornering angles, but also a great level of comfort for the rider and the passenger alike, mostly thanks to the upright position it allows, not to mention the generously padded seat.

SuspensionsThe new Diavel 1260 features a fully adjustable, 50-mm diameter fork on the front.

The compression adjuster and spring preload of the fork are on the left fork leg, while the extension adjuster is on the right leg. On the other hand, at the rear the Diavel 1260 has an adjustable mono-shock in the spring preload and in extension.

In turn, the Diavel 1260 S is fitted, for the first time ever, with a fully adjustable 48-mm diameter Öhlins fork and an Öhlins shock-absorber, also fully adjustable. Öhlins suspensions ensure not only an impeccable response in terms of bike dynamic performance, but also outstanding comfort on any type of terrain; moreover, they account for a truly precious-looking bike with their characteristic gold finish.

FrameThe Diavel 1260 frame is a steel tube trellis using the engine as the key focus of the entire chassis set-up.

The frame is fixed to the engine by the two cylinder heads, much like the cast aluminum rear subframe. The engine is also secured to two forged aluminum plates surrounding the cast aluminum single-sided swinging arm. The Diavel wheelbase has a size of 1,600 mm and, thanks to the nimble chassis and the possibility to reach a maximum cornering angle of 41°, guarantees Ducati level performance on mixed terrain.

The steering head angle is 27°, the front end is 120 mm. Thus the Diavel 1260 setup makes the front end nimble and easy to handle, thus ensuring extreme user friendliness and a remarkable steering angle.

Tires and rimsThe Diavel 1260 fits fourteen-spoke rims, while the 10-spoke rims on the Diavel 1260 S feature an exclusive design and machine processed surface finishes.

Bosch ABS Cornering EvoThe new Diavel 1260 is equipped with the Brembo braking system and ABS Bosch 9.1MP control unit, an integral part of the Ducati Safety Pack (DSP) together with Traction Control.

Ducati Traction Control (DTC) EvoDucati Traction Control (DTC) is a system derived from racing which basically operating as a filter between the rider's right hand and the rear tire.

Ducati Wheelie Control Evo (DWC)Adjustable on eight levels, the system analyzes the position of the bike (wheelie) and consequently manages torque and power to guarantee maximum acceleration in safety without misalignments. Like the DTC, it has eight levels and has been incorporated in the Riding Modes.

Ducati Power Launch Evo (DPL)The "Dragster" spirit of the Diavel 1260 is fully displayed thanks to the Ducati Power Launch Evo (DPL). This system ensures a very fast – and safe launch – thanks to the optimized management of the maximum available torque, with a DTC always active and a relentless control of the pitch angle as measured by IMU.

Cruise Control and Hands-FreeIn order to ensure the highest riding comfort during trips, the Diavel 1260 is equipped with a Cruise Control system, handled by backlit controls on the handlebar.

The new Diavel 1260 is fitted with a Hands Free system, whereby ignition can happen without a mechanical key. Just keep the electronic key in your pocket and move close to the bike. When you are about 1.5 metres away the bike will recognise the key code and allow ignition. At this point you can simply press the key-on button to turn on the instrument panel and then start the engine.

TFT DisplayThe Diavel 1260 instrument panel consists of a TFT screen with a separate indicator panel, located respectively over and below the handlebar.

The instrument panel provides for four display modes. The Default mode only displays the basic elements with a particularly stylish design and is a new feature for Ducati. The other three, in turn, are the classic Track, Full and City displays matched with the Riding Modes.

The Diavel 1260 is fitted with dedicated electrical boxes with red, backlit buttons. The Cruise Control function requires dedicated buttons in order to engage the system and adjust speed. In static conditions it is possible to access a setting menu through the left handlebar box in order to adjust various functions, including DTC, DWC and ABS. In either static or dynamic conditions, it is possible to switch Riding Mode, choosing between Sport, Touring and Urban.

Moreover, the Diavel 1260 S is fitted with the Ducati Multimedia System (DMS): by connecting a smartphone to the instrument panel via bluetooth, it is possible to manage and display incoming calls and text messages, besides displaying all information concerning the current playlist. DMS is available as an accessory also on Diavel 1260.

Full LED lightsThe Diavel 1260 headlight was carefully conceived and is the product of a very focused design process. Both the front and rear lights are full LED, designed to ensure maximum lighting performance.

The headlight automatically moves from the daylight to the night configuration thanks to a sensor on the instrument panel. Moreover, the Diavel 1260 S has the front headlight featuring the Daytime Running Light (DRL) system (where allowed). DRL is a specific daylight position lamp ensuring perfect bike visibility during the day; at the same time, thanks to its specific reversed horseshoe shape, makes the Diavel 1260 easy to spot also against the sunlight.

The Diavel 1260 features the automatic switch-off function of LED turn indicators based on the leaning angle of the bike. Thanks to the use of the IMU inertial platform, the turn signals turn off after finishing the turn or after having travelled a certain distance.

Ducati Link AppThe Diavel 1260 is compatible with the new Ducati Link app, thanks to which it is possible to set the travel mode (combination of Load Mode and Riding Mode) and customize the parameters of each single Riding Mode (ABS, Ducati Traction Control, etc.) using your smartphone to personalize settings easily and intuitively.

In addition, the app makes available information on maintenance schedules, the user manual and the Ducati Store locator. Finally, the Ducati Link App lets you record your performance and travel itineraries so you can share your experiences on the new Diavel with the community of Ducatistas who already use it.
